Following the mysterious disappearance of the LL2468 gavel\u00a0during the union office move of 2014, two collaborators surprised LL2468 members during the MGM of September 12, 2017 with a replacement gavel.<\/p>\n

Ed O’Flaherty, retired 2468 member and 2468 retiree representative, sought out the support of skilled woodworker Mark Currin, Project Manager, to fashion a new gavel for 2468.<\/p>\n

When asked by Ed how LL2468 could repay Mark, Mark had this to say:<\/p>\n

“Thanks Ed. \u00a0If you remember I have been indebted to you for around 15 years. As a new comer to Canada you came to help and\u00a0I appreciated that perhaps more than\u00a0I have mentioned.<\/p>\n

The gavel was just a gift of appreciation mostly to you but also to your fellow Canadians for welcoming me and my family here all those years ago.\u00a0\u00a0Immigrating to Canada changed our lives and we now call it home.<\/p>\n

I enjoyed making the gavel.\u00a0 I had\u00a0not made one before so\u00a0I spent some time exploring designs on the internet; there is no cost and if there was\u00a0I would still give it you. \u00a0For me the joy was seeing everyone smile. \u00a0You never know\u00a0I might get a commision to make something else but honestly if ever I can help you or you want a piece of my work on your mantlepiece you only have to ask.”<\/p>\n

Lorsque demand\u00e9 par Ed comment la SL2468 pouvait rembourser Mark, Mark avait ceci \u00e0 dire:<\/span><\/p>\n

“Merci Ed. Si vous vous en souvenez, je vous suis redevable depuis environ 15 ans. En tant que nouveau venu au Canada, vous \u00eates venu a mon aide et j’ai appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 cela peut-\u00eatre plus que ce que j’ai mentionn\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le marteau n’\u00e9tait qu’un cadeau d’appr\u00e9ciation principalement pour vous, mais aussi pour vos concitoyens canadiens pour l’accueil de ma famille ici tous ces ans.\u00a0 <\/span>Immigrer au Canada a chang\u00e9 nos vies et nous l’appelons maintenant notre pays.<\/span><\/p>\n

J’ai aim\u00e9 faire le marteau. <\/span>Je n’avais pas fait un avant alors j’ai pass\u00e9 du temps \u00e0 explorer des dessins sur Internet; <\/span>il n’y a pas de frais et, s’il y avait, je le donnerais toujours. <\/span>Pour moi, la joie \u00e9tait de\u00a0voir les sourires. <\/span>Vous ne le savez jamais,\u00a0\u00a0je pourrais avoir une commission pour faire autre chose, mais honn\u00eatement, si jamais je peux vous aider ou vous voulez un\u00a0de mes oeuvres sur votre manteau, il ne faut que demander.”<\/span><\/p>\n
