Georges Ghetler
My life at Rolls-Royce started on November 22, 1988 as a welder. My first supervisor was Jacques David , Stéphane’s dad and my first lead hand was René D’Amico, Paul’s dad. I spent 11 years on the shop floor when the decision was made to move our computer system from legacy to SAP. I quickly volunteered because it sounded like a new challenge that I thought would suit me. I spent 12 months writing SAP scripts and providing training.
When I realized that I didn’t want to go back to welding, I applied for a job in Inspection Support which I did for just over one year but it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for.
An opportunity opened up in the Quality Department and I was exhilarated when it was offered to me in 2002. I have been in this department since, working first for Robert Bélanger, then Benoit Manseau, Elena DiFrancesco, Bertrand Audi, Isabelle Caron, Bill Mateer, Pascal Couture, Irina Grigore and now, shortly before retirement, back to Robert.
I contemplated retirement a short while ago but flip-flopped about when I should go. When I finally set my date for June 30, the countdown was on.
I’ve had a great life at Rolls-Royce. They’ve allowed me to by my house, my Mustang, my Harley and many other toys and southern vacations. The greatest thing I have to thank Rolls for though is giving me the opportunity to meet and marry my beautiful wife, Julie.
There have been some ups and downs in the last 29 years but I would never give it up for anything.
The LL2468 Executive wishes all the best to Matt and Georges for their retirement.
Patricia Mareuil Retires!
Patricia retires after 42 years of work at RRC. Pat is best known as the “Queen of reporting” for all of RRC! She is also a champion and helped in the introduction of SAP into RRC. Pat helped develop most of the training sessions on SAP for different departments and designed all the bells and whistles on different gates to make SAP as user friendly as possible, which was quite a big job for such a complicated system.
Pat started at Rolls Royce Canada on June 25, 1975. Her first job was as a Kardex Clerk and was chosen based on her neat handwriting.
She then became a Provisioner now known as a Buyer or MRPC, then went into SAP introduction and IT; she found her true passion in her position as a Data Analyst.
Pat has always been very professional and easy to work with. She has the ability to make the most complicated issue seem very simple, so once it has been explained to a person they would remember and understand it forever. A great teacher with the patience of a saint and a warm smile which she wore throughout her career, she earned everyone’s respect who met her, worked with her, and who was lucky enough to get help from her.
Now that she has retired, Pat will follow her love for gardening full time; she is an encyclopedia when it comes to gardening so if you have any questions, do not hesitate to give Pat a call! She has a few projects for external and internal gardening. Pat also loves movies! She has a big collection of films but because of her busy life, she never actually had the time to watch them all. Now, she will have the luxury of sipping her tea and enjoying her movies.
Pat also is a cyclist and loves to read about different subjects. She will study at Google University as she is very curious by nature!
Last but not least, Pat loves video games so she will be having fun playing her favourite Skyrim games!
A lovely person and a good colleague, Pat leaves behind lots of friends.
Wishing Pat a long and happy retirement.

Siemens investit 133 millions pour moderniser son usine de Dorval

Siemens multinational will invest nearly $ 133 million in its Dorval facility, which will also serve as a launch pad in North America for the deployment of a platform to help companies better integrate new technologies to increase productivity.
The announcement was made Friday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, as part of Prime Minister Philippe Couillard’s economic mission to the Swiss Alps. Québec grants in exchange a loan of 20 million.
Through its Canadian subsidiary, the German giant will invest 110.6 million in Dorval, where 400 people work, to carry out research and development for the design and improvement of aerodynamic turbines, used in particular for the production of electricity.
“We have very good chefs in the kitchen and we have to find more customers,” said Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser, explaining that these investments would result in a few hires.
Dorval’s facilities are already specialized in the design and manufacture of gas turbines, electrical transformers and medical imaging equipment.
Mr. Kaeser explained that Siemens did not simply want to modernize the plant, but to ensure that it is prepared for the “next revolution” so that it remains competitive.
MM. Couillard and Kaeser had already met to discuss possible investments as part of a visit to Munich, Germany last July.
In addition, Siemens will deploy $ 22 million as part of its collaborative initiative inspired by the dual German model, which in addition to training in educational institutions, includes a large proportion in the workplace.
Siemens, which believes that it is a leader in the integration of advanced technologies in industrial environments, offers interested parties a free look at its model, explained Mr. Kaeser, and then implemented it within their organizations.
“Our clients, our partners and our universities can come and see and take the time to learn,” he said.
Ultimately, the Couillard government wants this initiative to accelerate the technological change of Quebec companies and to improve the training of the workforce, with the participation of educational institutions such as CEGEPs and universities.
“We want to focus on training in the workplace,” said Investissement Québec President and CEO Pierre Gabriel Côté. We want to apply the dual model to Quebec. “
However, it will take time to know exactly how educational institutions will be involved in this initiative.
The file will be discussed as part of the National Workforce Meeting to be held next month.
In addition to Dorval, Siemens operates two plants in Drummondville and Trois-Rivières, where some 1100 people work.
